Bursting Bubbles

With the simplest of materials and a great deal of patience, Richard Heeks photographed bubbles in the act of disappearing. Here he lets c’t Digital Photography readers in on the story behind these spectacular images – and reveals that anyone can do the same using a DSLR or EVIL camera.
While watching my nieces play with soap bubbles in the summer of 2008, I suddenly realized how beautiful these fragile spheres are, how they continually change the colors around them and how their surfaces reflect their surroundings. For weeks afterward, I played with soap bubble photography, trying to understand these reflections and capture them with my camera. A year later, still only a beginner, I happened to shoot a bubble just as it was bursting. I didn’t even know that was possible! My wife was then roped in to help and spent two weeks popping bubbles with her finger at my command.
